Probably the greatest superhero comic I’ve ever read hasn’t been read by anyone else. When I was a kid “The Adventures of Roly Poly” just couldn’t be beat. Whenever a comic would come out it would amaze me in its complexity and originality. At the time, no other superhero was immersed in a battle with a villain, only to then be in the middle of a tank battle on the next page, or even on to a new adventure without completeing his original adventure. Really amazing stuff. These classic comics were created by my little brother when he was 6 years old and we would draw together.
My little brother is not so little anymore, and I had thought he gave up drawing when we were kids. So it was really awesome to get an email from him this morning with this attached:

The original notebook with Roly Poly’s adventures is lost, but Erik and I will occasionally bring up those times when he would create little drawings of the man with the triangle head. I was so excited to see a new drawing I had to ink it:

Then I drew this picture, which is an updated version with a touch of the old Roly Poly I remember.

Maybe Erik and I will work together to bring you more Roly Poly, because he truely is awesome.

From the sounds of it, I think now-a-days Roly Poly would be diagnosed with ADD. But then again, who isn’t?

Got to love the triangle headed man. I went looking for the original (I think there were only 2) comics a few months ago to no avail.
I don’t think that “updated” Roly Poly picture is very accurate!….but the text with the box and bubble do remind me of the old comics. The old Roly Poly had way more straight lines. He was all shapes! His head was a triangle, body a square, and the rest of his appendages were rectangles.
Maybe we’ll see more of Roly Poly….one can only hope…

I would love to read some RPM (oh yeh, now Ive nicknamed him). Reall cool and funny idea. All the comics I made as a kid were rips from Marvel characters (Catman= Black Panther). My stuff was tounge in cheek, even back then.
RPM should live on. Its too cool a concept not too.
